The Wild M8 – the classic “Rolls Royce” of stereo microscopes
The Wild M8 is a classic among microscopes and can be combined with state-of-the-art camera technology with the help of our LM microscope adapters. In fact, current digital DSLR, system or C-mount cameras deliver surprisingly good results on this microscope. Working with the Wild M8 is a pleasure due to its simple assembly, efficient work flow and PC-based remote control.
Although the Wild M8 arrived on the market back in 1974, it remains a popular instrument, especially in the field of materials testing. As a stereo microscope, it produces three-dimensional visualisation of the sample being examined. With the high-quality plan 1x objective, the two separate images merge into one stereoscopic image.
The microscope’s magnification range (from 6x to 50x with 10x eyepieces) can be extended from 2.4x to 160x if an optimal combination of eyepiece and objective is used. An ergonomic tube that offers an adjustable viewing angle improves the ergonomic characteristics of the microscope.
The following observation methods can be used with the Wild M8: bright field (incident and transmitted light) and dark field (transmitted light).
The range of possible uses for the Wild M8 can be increased thanks to the extensive list of available accessories, which includes measuring eyepieces, single/dual illuminators, drawing tube, educational discussion tube and various stage plates.
By using our LM digital adapters, the venerable Wild M8 stereo microscope can easily hold its own against its successors (the M3Z, M3C and M10) since it can be paired with a DSLR or system camera quickly and easily – a combination that delivers superior image quality!
Fitting the microscope to digital single-lens reflex (DSLR), system or C-mount cameras is easy with our LM digital SLR adapters, which feature a plan achromatic optical system. Our products make it possible to capture top-quality microscope images. To help you select the adapter that is right for your camera, we have set up an online configurator on our website. You can also email us – ideally with attached photographs of your microscope.
Modern DSLR and system cameras offer the latest technology and are generally very well suited for microscopy applications. Most of them can be controlled remotely via PC/Mac. Because of their high sales volumes, they offer an excellent price/performance ratio compared to special-purpose microscope cameras.
Features of top DSLR and system cameras:
- Large, powerful full-frame sensors (36 x 24 mm)
- Sensor resolution of 50 megapixels
- High light sensitivity (ISO 100,000+)
- Extensive dynamic range (up to 14 aperture stops/f-stops)
- Short exposure times (1/8000 second):
- Full/Ultra HD (4k) video function
- Live video capture on external monitors in ultra HD quality
In most cases, these cameras are significantly more powerful than microscope cameras with smaller sensors (1/2" or 2/3"). On our website you will find our current camera recommendations and a camera ranking which is specifically tailored to microscopy applications.
