Olympus AX70 – uncompromising quality for professionals

The AX70 transmitted light microscope is part of Olympus’s PROVIS series (PROVIS stands for “PROfessional VISion”). It is a top performer when it comes to photomicrographic applications because it not only offers fast autofocus in bright field, dark field, fluorescence and Nomarski DIC but is also equipped with top-quality UIS (Universal Infinity System) optics – all of which are ideal features for creating excellent images. Thanks to the microscope’s wide-field trinocular tube and its U-MPH multi-port head, commercially available DSLR cameras can be attached to the AX70 with our LM digital adapters in a few easy and simple steps.

More information about using our adapters with Olympus microscopes is available here.

The observation tube makes it possible to attach two 35mm cameras (2.5x–5x magnification), a large-frame camera (7-5x–15x) and a video camera at the same time.

Featuring powerful transmitted light Koehler illumination, the AX70 provides a 26.5 field of view. The light source is a 12V/100 halogen lamp, which can also be converted to LED. The motorised nosepiece holds up to 6 objectives, and VEC objectives and Nomarski DIC prisms deliver brightly illuminated, high-contrast images.

The sturdy Y-shape frame of the microscope ensures ease of operation, which is a particular advantage for professional microscope work. The broad range of accessories available (different lamp housings, fluorescence equipment, large 6'' stage, multi-control box, U-PHOTO Universal Photo System, etc.) makes the Olympus AX70 a versatile microscope that is suited to a wide variety of applications.

Photography

Fitting the microscope to digital single-lens reflex (DSLR), system or C-mount cameras is easy with our LM digital SLR adapters, which feature a plan achromatic optical system. Our products make it possible to capture top-quality microscope images. To help you select the adapter that is right for your camera, we have set up an online configurator on our website. You can also email us – ideally with attached photographs of your microscope.

Modern DSLR and system cameras offer the latest technology and are generally very well suited for microscopy applications. Most of them can be controlled remotely via PC/Mac. Because of their high sales volumes, they offer an excellent price/performance ratio compared to special-purpose microscope cameras.

Features of top DSLR and system cameras:
- Large, powerful full-frame sensors (36 x 24 mm)
- Sensor resolution of 50 megapixels
- High light sensitivity (ISO 100,000+)
- Extensive dynamic range (up to 14 aperture stops/f-stops)
- Short exposure times (1/8000 second):
- Full/Ultra HD (4k) video function
- Live video capture on external monitors in ultra HD quality

In most cases, these cameras are significantly more powerful than microscope cameras with smaller sensors (1/2" or 2/3"). On our website you will find our current camera recommendations and a camera ranking which is specifically tailored to microscopy applications.
