LM adapter solution for c-mount microscope ports with reduction optics (0.5x / 0.6x / 0.7x or f=55mm / f=75mm / f=100mm)

In some microscopes (such as the Nikon SMZ745, the Zeiss Stemi 305 Trino, or the Leica M320 Dental), the c-mount optics cannot be changed or no suitable optics solution is available for cameras with APS-C or full-frame sensors.

The integrated optical system of the c-mount port with factors of less than 1x reduces the field of view, which is necessary for cameras with small sensors. The sensor size of the camera and the optical factor of the adapter solution must be an exact match; otherwise image quality will be compromised. Previously, when cameras with full-frame or APS-C sensors were used to take pictures through a microscope – provided it was even possible to attach the camera to the microscope – the image quality was usually poor, with peripheral darkening, blurring and colour fringing.

So far, standard adapter solutions have failed to adequately deal with this problem. However, our new LM adapter solution eliminates the limitations of the built-in c-mount reduction optics and makes it possible to use large-sensor cameras (such as DSLRs with full-frame sensors or mirrorless system cameras) for taking pictures through a microscope and still achieve excellent image quality.

Example application: Zeiss surgical microscope (OPMI) or slit lamp with c-mount port, f = 85 mm, for c-mount cameras. Using our adapter solution, we were able to attach a Nikon full-frame DSLR camera to this microscope’s standard c-mount port quickly and easily.
