New addition to the LM “Pro” adapter line: LM microscope adapter with integrated filter holder for attaching various optical filters
A high level of quality and maximum flexibility are essential prerequisites for professional work. For this reason, we have added a further improvement to our adapter solution: the adapters of our “Pro” adapter line can now be fitted with an M37 threaded filter holder, which accommodates a wide selection of filters, such as polarisation filters, grey filters, UV filters or IR filters. Further information can be found on our info page.

In the past few months, a lot has also happened in terms of camera technology. With our LM microscope adapters, the latest DSLRs and mirrorless system cameras can used to take microscope images. Most recently, we were particularly impressed by the Sony Alpha 7R IV, a high-resolution mirrorless camera which features the world’s first 61 MP full-frame image sensor, and Canon’s current APS-C DSLR, the Canon EOS 90D.
The following features are particularly important for microscopy in general:
- Powerful and light-sensitive sensor
- Extensive dynamic range
- Fast mechanical and digital shutter speeds for short exposure times – to capture even moving objects without blurring
- Ultra HD (4K) video
- Full HD video with up to 120 fps for slow motion recording
- Live image feed: wired or wireless (Wi-Fi) to PC, tablet or smartphone
- Direct live image output in Ultra HD (4K) to an external device via HDMI
- Power connection via USB-C
While Canon’s EOS 90D is an APS-C camera and thus carries a price tag of “only” around EUR 1,000, the full-frame sensor technology of the new Sony Alpha 7R IV pushes it into a completely different price range: it is currently retailing for around EUR 3,000 (body only, without any other equipment, because in microscopy, only the camera body is needed).
