Zeiss Axio Observer: one of the best inverted microscope systems around
Use the Zeiss Axio Observer to create photos and video recordings of superb image quality – with our LM microscope adapters, state-of-the-art cameras that deliver outstanding resolution, dynamic range and light sensitivity can be attached to the microscope.
The Zeiss Axio Observer family, comprised of the Axio Observer 3, Axio Observer 5 and Axio Observer 7 models, was primarily developed for intensive work with a large number of samples, particularly in metallurgy and cell biology. The inverted construction of these instruments not only facilitates the examination of particularly heavy samples, but also enables parallel alignment to the objective lens. Focussing once is sufficient, as the system retains that focus for all subsequent magnifications and samples. Weighing in at between 27 and 36 kg, the Axio Observer is also a heavyweight in terms of quality.
The microscope is suitable for all important microscopy techniques, such as:
Incident light: (bright field, dark field, DIC, C-DIC, fluorescence
Transmitted light: bright field, dark field, DIC, phase contrast, polarisation
The modular construction of this family of instruments makes it possible to design a microscope system that perfectly matches individual user requirements. Customers can choose between an encoded, partially motorised or motorised stand, LED or HAL 100 illumination (and HBO lamps for incident light illumination), stage inserts for standard specimen diameters or a 10 mm aperture for very small samples, thus tailoring the system exactly to their needs. Depending on individual requirements, Zeiss offers differently configured software packages: AxioVision, AxioVision LE, ZEN 2 core or ZEN 2 starter.
Using our LM digital adapters, current DSLR and system cameras can be attached to every model of the Zeiss Axio Observer family in a few simple steps:
The Axio Observer is equipped with a sextuple revolving nosepiece (manual, motorised or encoded depending on the model). Zeiss’s renowned optical systems allow users to choose from numerous top performing objectives: EC Epiplan, EC Epiplan-Neofluar and EC Epiplan-Apochromat.
Conclusion: The Zeiss Axio Observer family of microscopes ranks among the very best instruments in their class.
Fitting the microscope to digital single-lens reflex (DSLR), system or C-mount cameras is easy with our LM digital SLR adapters, which feature a plan achromatic optical system. Our products make it possible to capture top-quality microscope images. To help you select the adapter that is right for your camera, we have set up an online configurator on our website. You can also email us – ideally with attached photographs of your microscope.
Modern DSLR and system cameras offer the latest technology and are generally very well suited for microscopy applications. Most of them can be controlled remotely via PC/Mac. Because of their high sales volumes, they offer an excellent price/performance ratio compared to special-purpose microscope cameras.
Features of top DSLR and system cameras:
- Large, powerful full-frame sensors (36 x 24 mm)
- Sensor resolution of 50 megapixels
- High light sensitivity (ISO 100,000+)
- Extensive dynamic range (up to 14 aperture stops/f-stops)
- Short exposure times (1/8000 second):
- Full/Ultra HD (4k) video function
- Live video capture on external monitors in ultra HD quality
In most cases, these cameras are significantly more powerful than microscope cameras with smaller sensors (1/2" or 2/3"). On our website you will find our current camera recommendations and a camera ranking which is specifically tailored to microscopy applications.
