Zeiss Stemi 2000

The Zeiss Stemi 2000 and 2000C microscopes are of interest not only in the professional sphere but also for ambitious hobbyists. The basic models are available from as little as around EUR 2,700.

The various microscope types can be assembled in modular fashion depending on the way in which they are to be used. This offers the advantage that they can be upgraded or added to at a later point in time. A number of different designs and accessories are available for these microscopes.

Zeiss Stemi 2000 stereomicroscope with photo tube

The construction of the Stemi 2000 and 2000C is based on the Greenough principle, which means that they have two separate optical paths. The human brain is able to generate a three-dimensional, plastic image through the optical path and the 15° angular offset.

The zoom factor of the microscope is 7.7 (zoom range 7.7:1). The click-stop function is handy for day-to-day use. This feature enables the zoom factor to be adjusted while looking through the eyepiece; a click indicates when the next magnification level has been reached without having to look at the control knob.

The Stemi 2000C (microscope body: 455053-0000-000) and Stemi 2000CS (microscope body: 455055-0000-000) models also come with their own phototube. This makes it very easy to attach a camera (digital SLR, system camera or USB camera) to the microscope. With the beam splitter, another feature of the microscopes, it is possible to capture images through the phototube at the same time as examining samples through the microscope eyepiece.

To attach a camera  to the phototube, you will need a C-Mount 1x adapter and the LM basis adapter with planachromatic optical system.

However, it is also very easy to attach a camera to one of the two eyepieces if the microscope does not have its own phototube. To fit a camera to the microscope, one of the two eyepieces needs to be removed. Then, simply insert the adapter with the camera. The assembly is then immediately ready to use.

We offer solutions for all SLR cameras (full frame sensor, APS-C sensor, four thirds and micro four thirds sensor), C-mount cameras (with a sensor size from 0.3” to 0.7”) and system cameras (mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lens mounts).

Conclusion:

The Stemi 2000C is a good quality stereo microscope. As with all commercially available microscopes with a Greenough optical system, there are a few disadvantages for photomicrography. These aside, however, it is possible to achieve highly satisfactory photographic results using this instrument together with our LM digital adapters.

Fitting the microscope to digital single-lens reflex (DSLR), mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras (MILC ), digital single-lens mirrorless (DSLM) or C-mount cameras is easy with our LM digital SLR adapters, which feature a plan achromatic optical system. Our products make it possible to capture top-quality microscope images. To help you select the adapter that is right for your camera, we have set up an online configurator on our website. You can also email us – ideally with attached photographs of your microscope.

Modern DSLR and single-lens mirrorless (DSLM) offer the latest technology and are generally very well suited for microscopy applications. Most of them can be controlled remotely via PC/Mac. Because of their high sales volumes, they offer an excellent price/performance ratio compared to special-purpose microscope cameras.

Features of top DSLR and single-lens mirrorless cameras (DSLM):
- Large, powerful full-frame sensors (36 x 24 mm)
- Sensor resolution of 61 megapixels or 240 megapixels with Pixel Shift technology
- High light sensitivity (ISO 400,000+)
- Extensive dynamic range (up to 15 aperture stops/f-stops)
- Short exposure times (1/8000 second) up to 1/32,000 seconds using the digital shutter
- 4K Ultra HD  or 8K Ultra HD video function
- Live video capture on external monitors in ultra HD quality

In most cases, these cameras are significantly more powerful than microscope cameras with smaller sensors (1/2" or 2/3"). On our website you will find our current camera recommendations and a camera ranking which is specifically tailored to microscopy applications.
