The Olympus IX Series
When Olympus introduced its new IX series microscopes – the IX50 and IX70 – to the market in 1994, the company did far more than simply meet the expectations of its users. In fact, the newly developed Olympus UIS optical system and infinitely corrected objective series set new standards in terms of optical performance. The robust design of these microscopes provides stability, and their extensive selection of extra modules enhances overall flexibility. The extensive list of accessories makes the IX50 and IX70 particularly suitable for photomicrography applications.
Maximum image quality can be obtained by using cameras equipped with large sensors (DSLRs with full-frame or APS-C sensors), and our LM microscope adapters can be attached to state-of-the-art cameras for use on Olympus’s IX series microscopes. This combination guarantees the highest resolution, dynamic range and light sensitivity.
The range of Olympus UIS objectives mentioned above, housed in a six-position objective turret, offers infinity corrected hardware for bright field, relief contrast, fluorescence, simple polarisation, DIC contrast and phase contrast microscopy.
The stable design of the IX series microscopes makes them perfect for work on living cells and cell cultures. Another important feature: since Olympus positioned the power supply unit at the rear of the stand, heat and interference generated by electromagnetic radiation are minimised. Additional modules are available for electrophysiological experiments, as are fluorescence modules and different condensers (with and without oil). Beyond the standard 30 watt halogen lamp, a 100 watt halogen lamp is also available.
The eyepieces used in this series have a field number of 22, and while both models offer a side camera port, the IX70 also comes with a front camera port.
Both microscopes are available with two different binocular tubes (with and without centering telescope and inclined at 45 degrees), as well as a trinocular tube (inclined at 30 degrees).
