Recycling old LM microscope adapters for digital compact cameras and camcorders

Between 1999 and 2003, compact cameras such as the Nikon Coolpix series were THE digital cameras for microscopy. No other digital cameras were better suited for use with a microscope at that time.
Today, almost ten years later, there are many cameras that are considerably more suitable for working with a microscope.

Digital SLR cameras have almost driven compact cameras from the microscopy market. We have set up a database which enables you to assess the suitability of the most commonly used digital SLR cameras for microscope imaging. However, some compact cameras, HD camcorders and smart phones with camera function offer interesting possibilities for special tasks.
If you still have an old compact camera adapter from that time, you can now upgrade your system at little cost. We offer a special range of adapters for mounting new digital SLR cameras. And for this upgrade we are currently running an interesting part-exchange scheme!

Below you will find a description of how to convert an old C-mount adapter for a Coolpix 995 to a new HD camcorder. The conversion kit can also be used for other manufacturers’ compact camera adapters (e.g. an old Nikon microscope C-mount adapter with M28 connection thread).

For the conversion, all you need is our LM universal filter adapter with a filter thread of 37 mm and a step-down ring from 37 mm to 28 mm.
Screw the step-down ring onto the old adapter (e.g. DANC, DANT, etc.). Attach the LM filter adapter to it. Next, attach the new camera to the stand socket and centre the entire unit. You are now ready to start working with your new system!

Conversion is possible for old adapters, phototube adapters and eyepiece adapters. .
